Shrine of Pir Haji Ali : Miracle or Natural Phenomena
Shrine of Pir Haji Ali is one of the most visited religious place in India, located in southern Mumbai. It was built in 1431 by a wealthy merchant. Regardless of religious knot, thousands of pilgrims visit the shrine on Thursday and Friday. Some people believe that one of the live miracle of this tomb is how sea covers the causeway after sunset and in the morning it clears the path for the visitors.
Sometime people think that the belief has nothing to do with facts. They not only believe such things, but also spread them to others. This may happen due to ignorance and unawareness. In the region of South Asia, I would say, lack of education is the key factor for such beliefs.
The shrine’s causeway gets covered with sea water due to high tides. Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels caused by the combined effects of gravitational forces exerted by the Moon, Sun, and rotation of the Earth. Also, it does not necessarily happen every night. Due to this behavior, these places are also called tidal island. Secondly, Shrine of Pir Haji Ali is not the only place where this happens. As it is a natural phenomena, there are various tidal islands across the globe. Few of them are as follows:
1- Jindo and Modo – Located in the southwest of South Korea
2- St Michael’s Mount – Located in south-western England
3- Cramond Island – Located in eastern Scotland.

The purpose of this article is not to hurt people beliefs or feelings. It is just for educational purposes. It is better to look into the facts and educate ourselves before start believing such things. If a belief is getting weaker by a fact, it’s time to re-visit that. A true belief should strengthen by the facts and knowledge.
